I apparently didn't read far enough back in the series to catch this. This is so important to me! Building atmosphere is possibly the single most important aspect of a good game for me.

Another problem I have with the hidden object genre is that it doesn't feel very "game-like" to me. I like the addition of a timer or some competitive aspect here or there. In most casual games, there is almost no chance of losing, which is a huge draw to some people, but it kind of defeats the purpose to me.

I absolutely cannot recommend Patricia Briggs highly enough. Laurell K. Hamilton was a pioneer in the genre and back when she had actual editors, her books were a genuine pleasure to read. If you haven't read Anita Blake, you owe it to yourself to read the first 10 or so books. Here's a tip, though: I pretend Anita dies just before Incubus Dreams, so Incubus Dreams and any subsequent books are just speculative fanfiction that have no bearing on canon Anita. There seems to be quite a crossover here between urban fantasy and romance, though. Mercy Thompson has real GRIT. Urban Shaman is another great series- I'm currently reading the third book and loving it. Again, not one I'd classify as romance, but totally worth reading. Let me add another author here who might fall more on the romance side of things: Lilith Saintcrow. I highly enjoyed her characterization and world building (it's a bit of an alternate future rather than modern urban, if that makes sense) and this is one that I think would translate really well to a story driven game.

Fun and immersion are why I play. I enjoy games that are steeped in story, or that give me a clever perspective. Since March, I have rolled up my sleeves to try my hand at some hidden object games and it is very hard for me to really enjoy a game that has me just searching for random, unconnected items. It works for some people, that much is obvious, but my own enjoyment factor goes up immensely when I'm looking for things that are connected to the story. Luckily for me, there are more games coming out that seem to share this perspective. I have to say that Tiger Eye is one of only a handful of games I've found that does this all the way through. If you guys keep ANYTHING for the sequel, please keep that, so that I can stay immersed in the story!

I love World of Warcraft, but I recently allowed my subscription to lapse, something that coincided nicely with this RealID debacle. I've been more focused on casual games lately.

I just finished Gemini Lost, a delightful little sim. Now I'm going between PuppetShow: Souls of the Innocent, The Fifth Gate, and Madame Fate. I'm planning on adding "Mr. Jones' Graveyard Shift" to the mix soon.

Oh, and I was playing a lot of Zoo Tycoon Complete Collection before my one true love ganked the discs from me. (I kid, he's very good about sharing.)

Definitely check out the Marked series by S. J. Day. They are Eve of Darkness, Eve of Destruction and Eve and Chaos. Would love to see this series made into a game.
